starting English education at young age Essays - Primary Education
In 2001, all public elementary schools in Japan will start having English classes for fifth and sixth graders. It has been an issue of great concern in Japan as to whether English education should be started at young age or not. Nowadays, English is considered to be the most commonly and widely used language in international communication, and it is necessary for us to be able to speak English in order to keep up with the rest of the world. Therefore, it might help children get involved in something global, and broaden their view by learning English. Also, it is believed the earlier one is able to learn foreign language more quickly, easily and effeciently. Young children, fifth and sixth grader for example, still have the ability to absorb so many things including English. This advantage should be taken into consideration. However, some experts are concerned about the early intruduction of English, because it may cause confusion among children who are still struggling with their own language. people who have grown up in bilingual environment seem to have certin priblems. For example, some could not master either languages, and some started speaking at a later age then average children. Those experiences could negatively affect children's lives which could last or llong time. There seem to be both advantages and disadvantages of starting English education at young age. The government should promote the program carefully in order to improve student's academic capabilities and learning environment.
